Construction Conversation 3/3

A meeting to discuss strategies for rapid, efficient, and high quality construction of disaster recovery housing by means of manufactured, modular, panelized, pre-cut , or site-built construction models.

Recorded Conversation

Costs
What are the cost advantages and disadvantages of each approach?

Efficacy

Which approach is appropriate for which situations? Consider the type and size of community, rebuilding needs, scale of disaster, and capacity of program provider.

Roles and Responsibilities
Who needs to be involved in the deployment and construction process and what are their roles and responsibilities?

Quality
What are the advantages and disadvantages in regards to quality control for each approach?

Labor

What type, amount, and skill-level of labor is necessary to deploy, set-up, and/or construct?

Pre-disaster provisions

What planning, partnerships, training, and/or contracting is necessary prior to disaster?

Demonstration

Which organizations can demonstrate these construction models for a demonstration program in Houston, Galveston, and Brownsville?

As an architect who recently worked in Beaumont on a FEMA contract, I am well aware of the particular needs of disaster response housing.

For the past 15 years, I have created, built, tested, and patented a building system that has been hailed as a break-through in the building industry. Called “Cellular Building Technology,” it is rapid to assemble, exceptionally strong, energy efficient, attractive, and affordable. One of its qualities is that it can be disassembled and relocated, or reconfigured. Another is that we can build many different styles, configurations, and sizes. Conceptually, it is like a Lego set, although it does not look like one. The components are made in the factory and assembled on site.

Everyone who sees the system (the first production model is being constructed in my warehouse shop) is impressed, to highly impressed. Almost everyone says “Wow!” when they first see it and become more and more enthusiastic as we do a walk through.

The system is ready to be deployed. I am confident that it compares well with anything that’s out there.

I would like to demonstrate this unique approach as I know it has great applicability for disaster response.

    Thanks for your kind consideration.

Should organizations that can demonstrate one or more of these construction models be required to conduct the demonstration in all 3 cities, or are there other options?
